Can I correct badly done highlights at home?

Share

Hello,

I have recently been having a full head of bleach highlights over my dyed chocolate brown hair, but this keeps turning out gingery/strawberry blonde at the ends with the roots turning a light blonde.

This is not the colour I desired! I've now had three sets of highlights but this still keeps happening. Could you offer me any advice I could try at home as I cannot afford to keep going to a salon?

My hair is in pretty good condition.

Thank you,

I’m sorry that you’ve had such trouble! If your hair was a dark colour before you started having your highlights, your mid lengths and ends will still have lots of dark and red pigments left. These are often difficult to shift and if your hairdresser is just touching up your roots with the highlights then the colour on the ends will remain the same.

However, by taking the highlights though your hair to remove the unwanted colour may affect the condition. I would suggest going back to your hairdresser and talking about having a cooler, slightly darker toner over that highlights to bring down the colour at the roots and to cool down the colour at the ends.
