Is a perm the right way to go to spice things up a little?

Share

Hello!

I have short brown hair and long on the top, I struggle with how straight my hair is and am limited to what I can do with it!

I was thinking a perm to spice things up a little, would that be advisable?

Chris, Birmingham

Hi Chris,

Thanks for getting in touch.

We all sometimes want something different from our hair - hence why people with curly hair use straighteners and people with straight hair choose to use a curling wand. I personally am not a great fan of chemically changing the structure of men’s hair. The main reason for this being is that the re-growth shows very quickly as men’s hair in general tends to be shorter than ladies.

I would advise that you talk to someone about your options before you go down the route of having a perm. A good reputable barber or stylist will sit down with you and give you a full complimentary consultation to go through your options and give you peace of mind before any service takes place.

Another tip would be to go onto the internet and search 'men’s hairstyles for straight hair', you will find so many different choices that may inspire a new look. Print a few off and take them with you when you see your barber, they should be able to say if the look will suit you or not.

Finally a change in styling products is often a great way of mixing up your style. Why should a guy style his hair in the same way every time? Try a matted product one day and then a slicker product the next. It is good to have different looks for different occasions.

I hope this helps however if you would like any further information send me a picture of your hair from the front and the side to [email protected] and I will be able to assist you further.

Have a stylish new year,
