Since having my roots retouched I am experiencing a large amount of hair loss!

Share

Hi,

I have just had my roots retouched as I have a lot of grey, but when the hairdresser rinsed it off a lot of my hair fell out mostly on the crown and on the sides. It is very upsetting for me as you can now see my scalp! Please help me.

Will it grow back? I dare not touch it again, and with my grey coming through I dare not even go out.

This is really affecting me, please help!

Thank you,

Elaine, York

Dear Elaine,

I am so sorry to hear about your situation. It is important to make sure that your salon is aware of your situation, and ideally for them to have a look to see what has happened!

It is my experience that hair always does grow back, but it is always best to see a specialist such as a trichologist to see if there are any further symptoms that could have caused this to happen.

Generally, if you are having darker colours put through I have never experienced this to be a cause of hair to fall out. It would normally be if the hair is over-processed by bleach.

I am confident that if you were to get your hair re-coloured it would not make it fall out further, but it is better to be safe than sorry - a skin and a strand test would be advised.

We wish you all the luck in resolving your situation,

This sounds like a problem that needs to be addressed by a medical professional. I have never heard of a colour making hair fallout from the root. If it is bleach then I have come across it breaking off close to the scalp because of poor application and over processing.

I wouldn't have your hair coloured again until you seek advice from your doctor.
