Why When I get my hair coloured does my grey root area always comes out a different colour?

Share

Hello,

My hair is grey from the roots (about an inch) and I have had my hair coloured now for around 20 years. Now that I am grey I find that when I visit my hairdresser for a colour the grey root area always comes out a different shade from the rest.

What should my hairdresser be doing to match the colour more closely?

Thank you,

Keeping record cards is a vital way for colourists to make sure that the shade they create for you is the one they will apply again and again. If you find that it is different every time then possibly they are changing it every time. Enquire whether you have a colour record card and make sure they stick to it.

Hi,

It’s a fact that many hairdressers are not familiar with the total range of colours they use and how to use them. However, it may be that the colour your hairdresser is using could be a transparent colour. Transparent colours are great and look more natural, but they do not always cover white hair. I have a feeling that the colour used on your hair may have been transparent.

I suggest you ask your stylist to use a different brand of colour, one which specialises in covering white hair. Alternatively, you could ask your stylist to mix a slightly different mix of the same colour applied on your mid-lengths and ends, but use less peroxide with the mix applied on your roots and then leave this mix longer on your roots than on the rest of your hair. Sometimes that fixes this problem.

There is no guarantee that this will work but I have had good results in the past doing just that. I can recommend a brand of colour which will definitely cover white hair and at the same time will keep your hair in good condition. This brand of colour is called ‘Silky’ and is available for professional hair salons through Salon Promotions.  We use this colour at our salon with 100% success. Ask your stylist to contact them and ask them about Silky, Phone: +44 (0)1282 444900 - [email protected].

I do hope this information will help you,
