Each year, Organic Colour Systems teams up with the talented down under duo, Nichola and her husband Jonathon Hand to let their creativity loose using Organic Colour Systems.
Nichola is the Australasian Education Manager for Organic Colour Systems and co-owns Publik Salon with husband Jonathon on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia.
With their latest collection, Alchemy, Nichola strived to blend together her love of art with hair to create wearable art. Alchemy portrays diversity throughout Nichola’s colour work and placement, she has pushed the boundaries with how colour is used (mixing direct pigments with a styling spray to create spray paint) by spraying it in, to accentuate different textures in the hair, as well as crocheting hair through a milliners cap to create a 'rug' type texture to then spray painting it with hair colour.
This colour collection is more than just Hue! I really wanted to exceed my full potential in this collection, which resides in my visual brain, it incorporates my creative approach, vision and the execution of Alchemy.
The inspiration for my collection stems from many aspects, I’m inspired by my industry every day, as well as fashion, photography, art, architecture, nature, music... anything visual that captures my visual brain inspires me.
Firstly, the colour palette, my approach with colour - in everything I do - comes from a place of ‘it has to serve a purpose within the haircut!’ So, with Alchemy, the haircuts and construction of shapes were the primary focus, followed by hue selection and placement of that colour to bring out the best parts of the shapes I had created. – Nichola
If Nichola had to sum up her collection in just four words? She would say: Aptitude. Visionary. Calibrated. Alchemy.
