The Anne Veck salon in Oxford has been featured in the Business Spotlight section of the government’s Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy e-newsletter.

The e-newsletter – which is circulated free of charge to all subscribers – is a round-up of news stories from around the country which focus on climate change and sustainability, and the people and businesses taking steps to make positive changes for the future of the planet.

The Business Spotlight focused on the salon’s impressive 2013 refurbishment, which saw the business halve its CO2 emissions in just eight years thanks to countless design features which prioritised sustainability, including a switch to Ceramic Fuel Cell electricity, the use of Eco heads at the backwash and the installation of LED lighting. The feature also publicised Salon Re:Source, the free, downloadable toolkit, outlining the steps other hair and beauty businesses can take to become more eco-friendly.

The Anne Veck salon was the first UK salon to be certified as carbon neutral* – an accolade held since 2019. The business has also won multiple industry awards for its eco-initiatives and co-owners Anne Veck and Keith Mellen both speak regularly on industry panels.

“It’s wonderful to see the salon’s ethos and achievements shared with such a large readership” says Keith Mellen. “We have proven that sustainability can be incredibly beneficial to a business, helping to grow profits and reach new clients. I hope the inclusion of Salon Re:Source will help enable this invaluable document to reach even more people, creating a positive influence on future business decisions.”
