BBC’s newest prime time show, Second Chance Salon is all about helping ordinary people. Great characters will be put in the hands of a thoughtful, experienced and committed team of professionals – YOU - as their hair, make-up and wardrobes are completely transformed. The chosen team of stylists will draw out stories with skill, sensitivity and emotion, and they’ll really care about the person in front of them, whose life they are changing for the better.
Anchoring the show will be our Host, a warm charismatic presence who can drive stories and make everyone feel at home. We’re open as to who this could be – it could be a great stylist with huge confidence who knows all about how to make someone feel good. In short, it has to be someone who can make it feel like their own real life salon.
Once we find our great gang of talent, they will be let loose in our specially constructed salon space. During filming, the team will help people look good and feel better. Everyone we meet will have a story worth hearing, the potential for a transformation that will astound and a big life event or turning point that they want to look their best for. From a wedding day, to a crucial job interview, to a first date – these personal stories will be the emotional heart of the show.
It’s vital that our carefully cast, charismatic team of hairdressers, beauticians and stylists believe passionately in the transformative power of what they do. We want every client to leave the salon feeling like the best version of themselves. That way we’ll show how a radical change in someone’s appearance can have an incredible impact on their inner emotional wellbeing. We’ll follow clients out of the salon and into the real world as they take on their date with destiny so the audience sees firsthand how impactful the stylists' work can be - creating a heart-warming and emotional payoff at the end of the show.

Second Chance Salon is a new show for the BBC and is commissioned by Electric Ray. We’re hoping it will transform the makeover genre and put it right back in prime time. From the team behind First Dates, the series will combine the heart and warmth of real people’s stories with amazing transformations. It will create a real connection with the viewers and become a much-loved returning brand for BBC prime time.
