Biggest UK Competition for Trainee Hairdressers Finds a Local Star

Share

Local hairdressing trainee Melissa Chapman from Arrocca Hairdressing Training in Berkhamsted has stormed to victory in the UK’s biggest hairdressing apprentice competition.

Melissa was among the winners of the prestigious Central Hairdressing Academy and Joshua Galvin Academy Photographic Hairdressing Awards 2014, sponsored by Wella.

Melissa won the 1st Year Bridal/Prom category of the competition which is now in its tenth year and attracted over 600 entries! Her beautifully elegant style really impressed the judges because, although fairly simple, the overall effect was striking and was the perfect accompaniment to the bride’s dress.

Among the judging panel were Matthew Batham, Deputy Editor of Hairdressers Journal and international session stylists Ayo Laguda and Stacey Broughton. Selecting the overall winners was a tough challenge as the work produced was of the highest standard ever! Martin Kolton, Managing Director of Central Training Group, said,

This really is the best work we have ever seen. A staggering 600 shots were taken and this is still the largest apprentice competition in the UK. Everyone involved should feel very proud.

For Melissa, winning the top prize in the competition was an overwhelming experience. But she was pleased to be among the colleagues from Arrocca Hairdressing Training who were also regional winners and involved in the grand finals. Trisha Buller, Director of Ciente salon and Arrocca Hairdressing Training school was delighted the learners achieved such success. She added,

I was thrilled that four of my learners, who are my first group from Arrocca, were successful in reaching the regional finals, so to achieve an overall winner was simply fantastic. The students were so inspired they are already planning for next year’s photographic competition.
