Billy Fry Wins GHDÕs Talent Spotting Competition, Spotlight

Share

Billy Fry, from multi-award-winning salon Strands Hairdressing in Whiteley, has been announced as the very first winner of ghd’s national talent-spotting initiative ‘Spotlight’ and has secured himself a coveted place on the ghd Art Team.

Having been selected as one of the five finalists from 1,200 national entries, Billy secured his place on the team following a tense online competition, a finalist’s photo shoot and a month-long vote for the best image on Facebook where Billy received an incredible 1,374 public votes!

Jo Robertson, ghd’s head of UK and ROI education said,

It was really exciting and so tense watching the voting! In the last few days the percentages were changing hourly and at 5pm on the closing date Nicole Meehan and Billy Fry were neck and neck with Billy winning by only 11 votes. I would have been really happy to have any of the final five on my team as they produced such great work and were all very talented individuals, but I’m delighted to have Billy as part of the ghd Art Team. It shows that by pushing yourself and having clear goals and a great work ethic at a young age really works!

Billy was a member of ghd’s Style Squad last year and has worked with the team at London Fashion Week for two seasons. He was shocked and delighted when ghd contacted him with the news, commenting,

I’m totally overwhelmed by the amount of people that have voted for me and I would like to thank everyone for their support. I’m so proud to bring back this accolade to Hampshire and I can’t wait to get started!

Billy’s first assignment as part of the ghd Art Team will be appearing on stage at global hairdressing event Salon International in London.
