Nelson Brown is the force behind one of the fastest growing hair salons in Scotland, Browns; the place to find hair perfection. Nelson and his hand-picked, expertly and personally trained team, bring inspiration and creativity to hair, and aim to consistently bring fashion-forward ideas, keeping clients updated with the current hair trends and constantly educating.

Nelson says,

I started Browns 15 years ago after gaining a huge amount of knowledge and experience as Art Director of Vidal Sassoon in Leeds and London. Dumfries is my home and the gateway to Scotland. My vision is to make this beautiful corner of Scotland the birthplace of fashion inspired and technically perfect hairdressing.

Nelson’s international reputation as an educator has seen him share his hairdressing skills with audiences in Milan, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo and New York, and every fashion season he can be found backstage at London Fashion Week, assisting and creating show stopping catwalk hair for international designers. Working on the runway collections globally allows Nelson’s eye to hone itself into influences and trends only seen backstage and unique to him. Nelson Explains,

Teaching others and working with session stylists around the globe is an incredible source of inspiration and new ideas. The pressure to create something fresh means that I am always learning, and it means as a professional, I am never stale or complacent. As soon as I return to the salon I share what I have learned with my team and beyond them the clients. It means that at browns we always have ways of moving our clients along their own personal style journey.

Nelson has eight ‘Scottish Hairdresser of the Year Finalists’ under his belt, as well as ‘Men’s British Hairdresser of the Year Finalist’. These add a successful platform for Nelson to push from, and count as a priceless commitment to his beloved trade, hair!
