Camden hairstylist to represent UK in New York

Camden’s hot young talent, Jake Unger – a stylist at HOB Salons on Camden Lock, has been awarded one of the highest hairdressing accolades in the UK.

The 20-year-old triumphed securing the Gold Award in the Young Talent category on Monday 26th September at the Wella Professionals Trend Vision UK & Ireland Final 2011, one of the world’s most prestigious annual hairdressing competitions.

Hundreds flocked to Camden’s infamous Roundhouse to watch and be a part of this magnificent event. Hosted by TV personality Alex Zane, alongside a special live performance from chart-topping band Scouting for Girls, the event was one not to be missed. Jake wowed the judges with his interpretation of Polaris, one of four fashion-led hair trends created by Wella Professionals.

Competing against hundreds of hairdressers from across the UK at Regional Heats earlier this year, Jake secured his position at the UK & Ireland Final, held at the prestigious Roundhouse, just moments from the group’s flagship salon on Jamestown Road where Jake is based. The UK & Ireland Final saw him compete against 42 of the most talented young hairdressers across the country.

His win wasn’t the only success of the night as Camden continued to outshine the rest when Andrea Martinelli, also a stylist and educator at HOB Salons Camden, followed closely taking the Silver in the Young Talent Category, giving the group much to celebrate as they stole the show on their home turf.

Definitely one to watch, Jake is now getting set to take his win international as he prepares himself in the Camden salon to represent the whole of the UK at the International Final in New York, USA. Set to take place on 30th October, Jake will be joining young stylists from across the globe to battle for the ultimate title.
