ClubStar Enjoy an Exclusive Afternoon with Sam McKnight

Hair legend Sam McKnight spent Monday 30th January with the Fellowship ClubStar Art Team and members, at his exhibition, Hair by Sam McKnight at Somerset House, London.

Having just arrived back from leading the hair team for Chanel at Paris Couture, he spent the afternoon answering questions about his career and sharing invaluable advice on how to make it in the highly competitive world of session styling. A very capable, and somewhat nervous, Simon Tuckwell, ClubStar Art Team Leader, conducted the interview which was followed by (many!) questions from the enthusiastic audience.

Sam explained that to be successful in session you have to be prepared to sacrifice your personal time and be open to all opportunities that come your way. He talked us through some of his favourite all time looks; how he coped when he reached a shoot in St Barts with a certain Miss Moss only to find his kit bag hadn’t arrived; and what keeps him innovated (he loves his job!).

Prior to the interview the ClubStar members received complimentary entry to the exhibition, which highlights Sam’s remarkable 40 year career, from the late 1970s to the present day. Hair by Sam McKnight is the first exhibition to contextualise the wider cultural significance of hair and the role of the session stylist within fashion.
