In a climax to an eventful yet enjoyable year, Michael Mehmet of Tikadi recently flew to Los Angeles in an all-expenses-paid trip to work with the legendary John Frieda team at their US West Coast Flagship salon. The Tikadi salon owner was rewarded for his astounding efforts and going 'EXTRA LENGTHS' as part of John Frieda's HairRaising campaign that raises essential funds for the work of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The salon won the Small Business Rewards that included a luncheon with celebrity hairdressers including Lee Stafford and Nicky Clarke, but also a special training day on wedding/dressing hair with Royal hairdresser Andrew Collinge. The entire team was given individual learning from one of the best British hairdressers on how to create effective styles for almost every occasion.

Michael spent a working week at Melrose Place with the John Frieda team in Los Angeles, learning and enjoying the different work ethics as well as picking up some expert ideas from the Hollywood salon.

I couldn't believe I'd been given this opportunity to begin with, however I did enjoy every second of it. There is lots to learn continually when you're a hairdresser and that's something I believe in very strongly. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I met some wonderful people; not only the John Frieda salon team but also celebrities including Linda Gray who played Sue Ellen in 80s series Dallas, as well as Gwyneth Paltrow and a few others. It's always great to come home however and get back to the salon.

Tikadi have 2 locations in Essex - one at Theydon Bois and a recently-opened salon in Ongar. The salon raised a staggering amount for HairRaising/Great Ormond Street by staging a Summer Ball in mid 2010.
