From rags to riches to Berkhamsted

Trisha Buller, salon director at Cienté, was so inspired by being at the West End premiere of Vidal Sassoon The Movie that she has brought the film to Berkhamsted for a special charity showing on Tuesday 16 August.

The movie, subtitled 'How One Man Changed the World with a Pair of Scissors', tells the rags-to-riches story of the boy with a vision who fought his way up from an orphanage to become the world’s most famous hairdresser. Largely set in the Swinging Sixties, the film shows just what can be achieved when passion and skill meet unstoppable determination.

Trisha says,

Vidal Sassoon is a hero to me. The story of how this great man changed so much with a pair of scissors is obviously especially interesting to hairdressers. But it will also be a huge inspiration to lots of other people, whatever their dreams.

The film won great reviews, but is still not regarded as having the mass-market appeal needed for general release. Trisha thought they’d got that wrong.

She believed in the story and its message so much that she nagged the owner of Berkhamsted’s luxurious art deco Rex Cinema to set aside a night for a special charity screening. James Hannaway was quickly won over by Trisha’s enthusiasm and has even dedicated the front cover of the Rex’s programme to promoting this one-off event, which takes place on Tuesday 16 August, starting at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available direct from Cienté on 01442 877273 and cost £22 to include a special cheese and wine reception, hosted by Trisha. Profits from the event will go to the Pepper Foundation, which does great work providing nursing care for sick children and support for their families.
