Salon owners, Gavin and Ella McIntyre of G&E McIntyres in Northampton hosted a glittering fundraising ball to help raise funds for two charities close to their hearts – The Hairdressers’ Charity and Meningitis Now.

With over 250 local businesses and hair industry greats attending - Errol Douglas MBE, Fellowship for British Hairdressing President Karine Jackson and The Hairdressers’ Charity Co-President Samantha Grocutt - guests were treated to a spectacular event in an old aircraft hangar in the Aviator Hotel in Northampton.

The evening was to raise funds for two worthwhile charities – the industry official charity The Hairdressers’ Charity that both Gavin and Ella were keen to support and give back to hairdressers in need, alongside Meningitis Now, which is a charity very close to their hearts. Their 11 month old son, Bertie, was diagnosed with meningitis at just five weeks old, and after many weeks of uncertainty and excellent care in their local hospital, he was given a clean bill of health.

Gavin McIntyre said,

After the fearful time we’d had with our son during his illness, Ella and I had talked about how we wanted to do something to give back to those who’d been there when we needed help. It got us thinking about how much everyone enjoys a good party and what a giving industry and clientele we have, and that perhaps we could organise a fundraising ball to bring awareness and raise funds.

We’ve been aware of The Hairdressers’ Charity through our involvement in the Fellowship for British Hairdressing and reading about their good work in the trade press, and so we thought it was the ideal opportunity to perhaps do something for two charities that are doing such great work for others.
