Mark Hayes and Project X

Share

A slightly star struck Project X Team were extremely excited to be spending the day with Sassoon’s legendary Mark Hayes this week at the Sassoon Academy. This workshop was all about the art of crafting hair and of course, the legacy of Sassoon.

The session began with half of the team presenting their mood boards on what Sassoon meant to them before Mark introduced himself and the famous Sassoon philosophy.

The team were of course itching to see the main event – the hair work! They were shown presentations by James Greaves and Saffa Elnour from the Sassoon Academy on a bob cut and a medium length cut before Mark presented a haircut from Sassoon’s new collection. There was a lot of discussion between Mark and the team on how to create looks in a commercial environment in the salon, covering the topics of consultation, timings and technique. From tips on cutting to a client’s bone structure, to advice on cutting wet to dry hair so that you can see the shape evolving, Mark imparted his many years of knowledge to the team who were only too happy to soak it all in.

In the afternoon, the other half of the team presented their mood boards before the practical work began. Inspired by all that they had learnt, the team put their skills to use on their models under the guidance of Mark, James and Saffa who helped them in creating different looks, taking them through each and every step on how to cut the Sassoon way.

I am over the moon to have spent the day with Mark Hayes, said Brooke Evans from Tim Scott Wright at the Hair Surgery, it was the workshop that I was looking forward to the most and I have gained so much from it! It’s crazy to think that I follow Mark so closely on social media and now I have actually done this masterclass with him! I am so grateful.

Rita Tuska from Joseph Ferraro Hair said,

I really enjoyed my day. We loved hearing Mark’s inspirational stories about Vidal Sassoon and his career path. It’s great to have learnt techniques that we can all take back to the salon!
