Masterclass with Simon Shaw at Leeds Academy for Hairdressing and Barbering

Share

Leeds Academy for Hairdressing and Barbering (LAFHAB) welcomed Simon Shaw, UK and European Artistic Director at Wahl, to their academy for a two hour materclass where he shared his techniques, knowledge and motivation for the industry with the staff, tutors and students.

LAFHAB’s mentor and good friend of Simon Shaw, John Peers, arranged the two hour masterclass which kicked off with excited students opening their Wahl goody bags. Simon then began his class by telling everyone about himself and how he got into the industry before launching into his first demonstration.

Up first was a basic gent’s cut using only clippers. Simon demonstrated techniques for fading and layering, and a special technique for texturising called the ‘flick and smack’ with Wahl’s new motion clippers. The second demonstration was a complete re-style using only clippers. The new style was cut into a side parting, was shorter on one side and had a clean precise finish.

All the techniques that Simon demonstrated were easy to follow, interesting and showed how they can make a cut easier and more time efficient for yourself and the client. Simon also shared tips on how to make the experience of going to a barber more enjoyable for your client and how to get them coming back to you.

The whole morning was interesting, relaxing, enjoyable, motivational and inspirational. Having someone like Simon come to LAFHAB to share his experiences in the industry with their students is something they can take with them throughout their careers, and it gave them the boost that some of them may need when entering into a new career.

LAFHAB is arranging for Simon to come into the academy twice a year for materclasses and demonstrations which will be open to barbers and hairdressers to book onto. You can find out more information on LAFHAB’s courses, taster days and news at www.lafhab.co.uk.
