mynewhair Launches in Canada

Share

A pioneering national hair loss charity founded by professional stylist Trevor Sorbie MBE is further expanding its network of responsibly trained hairdressers across the globe.

The renowned British celebrity hairdresser will lead the charity’s very first training seminar and workshop in Canada this April. Trevor Sorbie and his training team will conduct a two-day nurse-led wig cutting and styling seminar and workshop for professional hairdressers on Monday 29th April, at the L'Oréal Toronto Academy and Tuesday 30th April, at the L'Oréal Montreal Academy.

Trevor Sorbie MBE will share his story and inspiration behind mynewhair, as well as use his personal skills and 40 years of experience to provide hairdressers with specialist expertise across all areas of advice, wig cutting, aftercare and how to work compassionately with clients suffering from hair loss.

Following the charity’s successful launch in Dubai last year, I am delighted that we have taken another step towards making mynewhair a worldwide service. I am extremely proud of what we have achieved so far and can’t wait for the team, and I, to meet and train our new Canadian hair professionals.

When people - especially women - lose their hair, they're still the same person but suddenly they are treated differently and this has a ripple effect. By giving a woman hair, you're giving her a part of herself back - it’s a type of psychological medicine. This charity and the difference it makes to people’s lives is something I am very passionate about. Everybody knows someone who has been affected by cancer and we are committed to supporting our network of Salons that Care so they can help people to feel like themselves again and restore their confidence. I think that this is something very special.

We are extremely grateful for the support of Look Good Feel Better, Pureology Canada and L'Oréal Canada for helping us to achieve our vision of further expanding mynewhair internationally. - Trevor Sorbie MBE

During the workshops, in association with Look Good Feel Better, Pureology Canada and L'Oréal Canada, Trevor Sorbie will be joined by the charity’s trustees: professional hairdresser Darren Stuart from Tribeca Hair based in the North East of England; and health professionals Joanne Atkinson, Head of Subject Nursing Midwifery and Health at Northumbria University, and Ann Fox, Executive Director of Nursing, Quality and Safety at Sunderland NHS Clinical Commissioning Group and Visiting Professor at the University of Sunderland, Department of Nursing and Health Sciences. mynewhair provides much needed advice and support to anyone who has experienced medical hair loss and access to an international network of responsibly trained hairdressers across the UK and Ireland as well as Dubai who provide a wig styling service.

The charity offers specialist training to independent salons and professional hairdressers on how to work compassionately with clients suffering from hair loss, how to choose the correct wig and cut and style wigs to look like real hair, allowing those with medical hair loss to maintain their confidence. Currently mynewhair has approximately 960 professional hairdressers, including freelance and mobile hairdressers and almost 835 salons across the UK and Ireland, as well as Dubai, in the charity’s network of ‘Salons that Care’. Each member of the charity’s network – now including new hair professionals in Canada – pledge their commitment to mynewhair’s guiding principles and provides a compassionate service for their clients.
