Nicole OÕGorman Looks Back Over Her Summer With Gok Wan

Share

Throughout July Gok Wan hosted a live holiday show on Channel 4 which helped women dress for summer, with hot fashion tips on how to look good in the sun. On hand was Gok’s resident hairdresser Jamie Stevens who requested the help of Nicole O’Gorman from Revas Spa in Adare, Ireland for her expertise in long hair and up-styling.

Here Nicole looks back over her time on set and talks about the pressure and experience of creating a live show.

Upon invitation from Jamie Stevens, resident hairdresser of the Gok Wan show and The X Factor, I was requested for my expertise in long hair and up-styling work. The show took place live outside the BBC in Media City, Manchester, so the pressure was very much on.

For many people summer means looking forward to sand, sea and sunshine. But for millions, it's a time to dread when the thought of baring legs, arms, bums and tums makes many women pray for rain. But Gok is on hand to assist women as they get dressed up - or more importantly - dressed down for summer.

During the show Gok gave standout tips on how to look cool at all the summer's events, from a wedding to a festival or a day at the races. Katie Piper also gave a step-by-step guide to holiday beauty maintenance, with tips on waxing, tanning and make-up, to ensure mortifying moments on the beach are a thing of the past. The show only lasted for one hour and was aired live, so prep was going on from the early hours.

I was involved in the styling of over 50 models with the theme being “Beach Hair”, and as part of Jamie’s team I was involved in the backstage touch-ups before the models went on stage. It was a crazy go-go-go atmosphere where every second counted on the live show with the best of make-up artists, stylists, clothing and accessory experts and backstage crew all doing their thing for the whole show to come together.

The whole experience was amazing and something I really enjoyed doing – having a good chat with Katie Piper and actress Sally Lindsay was good fun too.
