PROJECT: X and PROJECT: Colour On Track for 2020

The Fellowship for British Hairdressing’s PROJECT: X team enjoyed their first session with new Project Leader, Angelo Vallillo – starting off a year of education and opportunities with a session at the Wella Academy in London.

For their first session, the team shared with Angelo their hopes and goals for the year, while he provided insight into what he had planned for the year ahead – including some incredible guest mentors, plenty of social media guidance and sessions on presentation. In the afternoon, the team worked in pairs to create a doll head look showcasing their individual strengths – looks that were then presented back to the rest of the team.

I’ve already learnt how to take aspects from a creative style and make it salon friendly. That’s going to help me give my clients flare and something different walking out the salon. The team is amazing and so welcoming – I feel very lucky to work alongside such a talented team of people. - Olivia Miles

Angelo has taken a slightly different approach by teaching us the entrepreneurial aspect of our industry as well as hair, which is priceless knowledge I think all of us can appreciate and learn from. It's not always shared or spoken about enough and building yourself in such a fast growing industry is not easy! I’m so excited to get started with the rest of the year. Angelo has completely pushed our expectations with the mentors he has managed to get on board and is so passionate about the industry, and he really wants to push us to do well for ourselves. - CC McNamee

The 2020 PROJECT: Colour team also embarked on their first day, with Project Leader Paul Dennison and guest mentor, Fanette from Mazella & Partners. After spending the morning getting to know each other and learning more about the year ahead, the team enjoyed a demonstration of panel colouring in a fringe, which they then replicated on their own doll heads in the afternoon with guidance from the experts.

This was a great technique. It’s something I’ll take back with me to the salon, using variations of section sizes to create a striking panel piece. - Scott Musgrove

I wanted the team to study not just how to colour hair, but why. It was a perfect start to what’s shaping up to be an amazing year. Thanks to Mazella & Partners and Goldwell for giving their time and space. - Project Leader, Paul Dennison
