Relief From Lockdown Roots

Having been in lockdown for the best part of five months, many of us are sporting some interesting lockdown looks. For most of us, a few weeks in trackie bottoms and hoodies has been welcomed, but the downside to everything being shut is that some of us are experiencing roots, grown out nails, bushy eyebrows and lashes falling out.

Partners all over the UK are waking up to see the “real” people they are with! For some, it is the freedom they have needed and are rocking their ‘lockdown looks’, and for others it has been a living nightmare.

We spoke to Claire Davies, who lives in The Vale of Glamorgan, South Wales and goes to The Hair Business in her local town of Cowbridge. The Hair Business is a member of the Good Salon Guide and one of our newly awarded COVID Aware salons. We wanted to find out first-hand what it was like to visit a salon for the first time after lockdown, how it compares to her previous visits before COVID and how safe she felt.

“I was met at the door of the salon by one of the junior girls in a visor and mask. I put on my mask and followed her. The salon was calm and quiet”, Claire explains. Claire has been seeing her stylist Owen for a number of years and trusts him implicitly (enough to not reach for the store-bought dyes many have resorted to). “Owen was also in a mask and visor”, says Claire. She goes on to explain, “all the stylists had their own areas which were zoned off. They have all their own equipment and there are four stylists working, so only four clients in the room.” Claire commented that she felt “very safe” at all times and “comfortable” with the measures that had been put in place. “The colour was done, so I went over to the wash basins, only two clients washed at each time and plenty of space between everyone. Owen then cut my hair and dried it. At last after five long months I felt tidy again!”

Claire is not sure when her next appointment will be, but whilst it was ‘different’ from what she was used to at the salon, it was a comfortable safe experience and she feels very confident to return. “The measures put in place are reassuring and welcomed”, and she thanks the hair Business for a safe and successful first visit!
