A businesswoman is continuing her brush with success after her salon made it into a top guide. Hairdressing @ No 4 by Leah was launched by Leah Richardson in July. Now the shop, in Seaham’s North Terrace, has been given a place in the Good Salon Guide.

Leah, 34, who lives in the town, said,

The Good Salon Guide is the long-awaited measure that enables clients to know their hairdresser is a true professional.

We are delighted to have achieved independent recognition of this salon’s standards.

The business, which employs four others, was granted a Four Star status, missing out on the final mark because it does not have a VIP room.

Leah added,

I said that’s because we like to make everyone feel like a VIP.

Those added to the guide are visited regularly for assessment by professional inspectors to ensure standards are maintained, staff are qualified and good products are being used and also recruits mystery clients to put the salons to the test.

Leah began her career with Sunderland hairdresser Neville Ramsey as a Saturday girl in Saks before going on to work for Toni and Guy in Durham, Newcastle, where she managed the branch, and in Sydney, Australia, making her way up the hierarchy of the business from assistant to overseas trainer and style director.

As part of her job, she has led magazine photo shoots and styled celebrities including Keanu Reeves, Dragon’s Den member Duncan Bannatyne and Premiership footballers. The business, which opened as part of a refurbishment scheme of the former North Haven care home on the seafront, also offers beauty treatments.

Others who have made into the guide include The Salon in Peterlee, barber’s Guappo Hair Design in Shotton Colliery, Hair by Daniel John in Fence Houses, Superego in Fulwell and Tribeca Hair and Beauty in East Boldon.
