Shaping Futures continues to change lives around the world

Share

In 2018, Schwarzkopf Professional’s Shaping Futures initiative will be reaching new corners of the world, transforming the lives of disadvantaged young people by offering them the opportunity to train in hairdressing with some of the best stylists in the business.

Set up in 2008, this visionary brainchild of Schwarzkopf Professional is now active around the world, giving something back to the hairdressing industry. Though it started small, it’s ambitions were always global and today, from humble beginnings, Shaping Futures has held over 100 training sessions in 30 countries, hosting 1932 students.

2017 was a vintage year for Shaping Futures. Not only did they support the build of a dedicated hair and beauty therapy training facility in Myanmar, but they also provided training in Georgia, Cambodia, China, India, the Philippines, Croatia, Czech Republic, Colombia and many, many more.

Shobha Pillapa became involved with Shaping Futures in 2012 when volunteers headed to SOS children’s village in Bangalore. After tragically losing her husband in a motorbike accident, Shobha found herself in an untenable situation where she needed to support herself and her children. After being welcomed onto the six-week hairdressing training programme with Shaping Futures, Shobha was able to get a job and now owns her very own salon and runs a small team. Not only has she now built a stable life for herself and her family, she is able to provide jobs for others. This example shows in very real terms the impact of Shaping Futures.

In its ninth year, Shaping Futures 2018 is set to be even bigger and better, with the development and expansion of existing projects and plans to expand the volunteer network to unexplored regions. Schwarzkopf Professional UK are also on the hunt for enthusiastic, big-hearted volunteers to travel to Vietnam, the Philippines or India in Autumn 2018 and Spring 2019. If you are interested in giving disadvantaged young people a future career in hairdressing, then this is the perfect opportunity.
