Local Hairdresser Patrick Matthews from Simon Webster Hair in Brighton, is one of only eight hairdressers throughout the UK to reach the final of the sought after Mizani Afro Look Award at the industry’s most prestigious and fashion fuelled hairdressing competition event – the L’Oréal Colour Trophy, which this year celebrates its 60th anniversary.

We’re thrilled. The salon does a lot of Afro hairstyling, but this is the first time that we’ve entered the Mizani Awards, and so to go straight through to the finals is just incredible. Patrick is an amazing stylist and we’re really proud of his achievements since joining us at Simon Webster Hair.

The Brighton salon, the only Mizani salon in the area, beat off serious competition in the opening photographic round and will now be one of only eight finalists to compete at the live stage of the competition held at the L’Oréal International Academy on 12th May 2015. Here Simon Webster Hair will need to present a model which showcases their interpretation of a ‘well-executed, inspirational, modern colour with a beautiful editorially inspired style and finish on a female model of African/Caribbean descent’. The overall look needs to ‘complement an Autumn/Winter 2015/16 fashion trend’ and ultimately result in a ‘show-stopping look.’ Each team will be given just two hours to complete their look before presenting their model to the acclaimed judging panel.

The 2015 judging panel consists of some of the industries elite judges including the current British Hairdressing Awards, Afro Hairdresser of the year Charlotte Mensah, fellow winner in 2011 Junior Green, Kim Johnson the 2010 joint winner and Michelle Thompson, Afro Hairdresser of the Year 2009.

The overall winner of this award will be announced as part of the glamorous and prestigious L’Oréal Colour Trophy Grand Final Awards on Monday 1st June in the stunning surroundings of Battersea Park at Battersea Evolution, London. The 60th Year of the L’Oréal Colour Trophy - the longest running live hair competition in the world - will be attended by the hairdressing industries greatest names. The winner of the 7th Mizani Afro Look Award will win a money can’t buy prize, which includes a three day European trip to shoot the winning look, bespoke educational support from one of the highly skilled Mizani technicians and many PR opportunities.
