“We exist as a team to make people happy through our innovation, creativity and knowledge. We listen to you and discover your needs. We educate and are educated to stand at the forefront of our industry. Our aim is to be the best and to have you with us as we grow.”
This philosophy has naturally become the mission statement of The Hair Business and has developed over the 20 years of the salon’s life. In its 20th year, the salon is presenting a 3,000 sq ft hair, beauty and retail haven with cosmopolitan style decor. The salon incorporates bespoke design with a vintage feel, sleek modern fixtures with a minimalist approach and spectacular lighting teamed with natural open spaces. Harmoniously combined, they provide a comfortable and stylish surrounding that’s simply creative to suit all.
Salon owner Leigharne Phillips tells us how The Hair Business started and where she came from,
I was brought up in Cardiff with my mum, dad and two younger sisters Kim and Claire. I always wanted to be successful from a young age, and I felt that whatever I was going to do I had to be the best. I was very determined.
Having Dyslexia, and with my enjoyment of art and design, it became clear to me that my strengths were in being creative and working with people. Faces always interested me and still do, and I love to create a look for someone. I started out my working life with my paper round and working every Saturday in my local salon. My training took place in Cardiff, which then led to London, Bermuda, and cruise ships before coming back to Cardiff.
I came to Cowbridge in 1990 and became a partner at The Hair Business. In 1992 I became the sole trader here and it was time for me to work on creating what it has now become. Starting with a team of only 3 and 500 sq ft, it has grown to a team of 23 and 3000 sq ft. It has been a hard road to follow, but with the help and support of great people it is something I can feel proud of.
20 Years on....
Today, with a strong team of 23, The Hair Business encourages personal development with continuous training taking place both in-salon and in London, to encourage individual creativity and growth. This emphasis on personal growth and expansion, led Creative Director Leigharne Phillips and the salon to become a recognised 'Investor in People' in 2003, and is rated five stars by the Good Salon Guide. In 2011 Leigharne won an award for 'Best Beauty Business' at the Welsh Women in Business Awards. The salon has always worked hard at growing its industry presence through events, helping to create a strong platform for the team to be able to showcase their talents to the industry.
The salon offers a wide selection of beauty treatments that include Creative Nail enhancements, Jessica manicures and pedicures, Shellac and Minx manicures, and Becca make-up. The salon still prides itself on being a premiere colour salon with the use of Redken, Kerastase, Pureology, and Sebastian products, but now with the introduction of the fantastic Keraskin Esthetics brand, the salon is able to incorporate well-being facial rituals into their service list.
Also at The Hair Business, we can offer ethically produced hair extension services with Great Lengths and Hairdreams, who also help us deliver a supportive service to clients who are going through medical treatments and require help with wigs and hair pieces. For these clients, we offer a complimentary wig cutting service.
Combining the invaluable talents of highly skilled stylists and beauty specialists, one of the most picturesque locations in The Vale of Glamorgan, and the welcome of the much awaited arrival of Kerastase and Keraskin Esthetics, we would like to present....... The Hair Business of Cowbridge.
Your wear your hair every day; we want you to look your best!
