Gok Wan may be an expert in giving women life-changing makeovers, but he still needs a little help from time to time – which is where The Hairbank in Urmston came in.

Laura Kulik and her team were asked to take part in the Gok Live: Stripping for Summer show, which was filmed at Media City earlier this month.

The Hairbank team was seen cutting hair live on TV and even tamed some celebrity locks, including those of Corrie’s Sally Lindsay, model Katie Piper and Made in Chelsea star Cheska Hull.

Laura joked,

It was pressure for Gok as it was all filmed live, but I have a background in theatre and I’ve run my own business for 30 years so it didn’t really bother me.

Laura is also used to high pressure situations as she has been a finalist for UK Extensionist of the Year, along with her daughter Ria and plans to compete for the title of British Hairdresser of the Year, which Laura describes as hairdressings equivalent of the Oscars.

The salon has also recently moved to new premises on Station Road, marking the occasion with a charity night which raised more than £3000 for Cancer Research.

Former MP for Stretford and Urmston, and one of The Hairbank’s longest standing customers, Baroness Beverley Hughes, was also on hand to officially open the new salon. Beverley said,

I have been a customer of Laura’s for more than 30 years and I know that, as well as being a superb hairdresser, she is exactly the kind of entrepreneur we need, and her investment in this new salon says a lot about her commitment to Urmston town centre.
