Tim Scott-Wright Keeps his Friday Ladies Feeling Fabulous Despite Lockdown

Share

Though his business is currently closed, Tim Scott-Wright, owner of award-winning salon, The Hair Surgery in Stourbridge, is still making time for a group of loyal clients - dubbed his Friday ladies - some of who have been having their hair done by Tim for 25 years.

Tim and his Friday entourage still chat on the phone every week, with conversations ranging from a good old gossip to hair tips and advice. Since opening in 2014, the former doctor’s surgery turned hair salon has become more than just hairdressers for many of Tim’s regular clients. It is a place that people can socialise and stay connected to their community. Despite the current restrictions, Tim is determined to offer the same level of community support as he usually would when his salon is open. Tim said:

I love all my clients dearly, but my Friday ladies have been coming to me for their hair for years. They have followed my career and supported me every step of the way. I think the fact that we continue to stay in touch every Friday is testament to how they feel about the salon. Yes, we cut hair, but we’re also somewhere that brings local people together to build long lasting relationships. It makes me very happy to know that I can support this need, even in lockdown.

Julie Groves, one of Tim’s Friday ladies, has had a hair appointment with Tim every Friday at 12.30pm for 18 years. She said:

I first met Tim 25 years ago when he was Umberto Giannini’s protege in Stourbridge. He was clearly destined to be an amazing hairdresser even then and I still get excited about being transformed every week! I am really missing my Friday ‘treat’ and also seeing some of the other ‘Friday ladies’ whom I have known for many years. I can’t wait to see Tim and all his team again very soon.

Tim is optimistic about reopening when the government instructs that it is safe to do so and is preparing for a busy few months, as his customers book in for their long overdue cuts and colours. Tim adds:

In light of the recent government announcement we are beginning to prepare for our return, but we understand that the salon experience will be very different, with a phased opening, socially distanced appointments and my team in PPE. It will feel strange, but our main priority is to keep our team and customers safe.

Tim Scott-Wright is one of the UK’s leading names in hairdressing, he is recognised with a host of industry awards and accolades. In 2005 Tim won the coveted title of Midlands Hairdresser of the Year at the British Hairdressing Awards. A title he successfully went on to defend three years running, placing Tim as one of the youngest hairdressers to be inducted into the British Hairdressing Hall of Fame. His salon, The Hair Surgery has also picked up several awards including Hair Magazine’s Regional Salon of the Year and Creative Salon of the Year at the Salon Business Awards.
