Are there Hooves and Scales in your Shampoo?

Share

"What makes a shampoo and conditioner cruelty-free and vegan?" This was a question the team at Samuel Chapman were asked in-salon last week.

Here the team talk about cruelty-free hair products and why they choose Davines.

Hooves, animal hair, horns and scales

It's a disgusting thought that PETA's list of chemicals that contain animal products has listed over 20 potential animal-derived chemicals that can be found in your shampoo and conditioner. These chemicals can be derived from hooves, animal hair, horns, scales and other keratinised animal parts.

How can you tell?

This is unfortunately the hard part! The names listed on the back of your shampoo bottles can be derived from either animals or plants, with the cheaper alternative coming from animals.

Our advice...

Do not pick up a shampoo or conditioner that does not state that they are cruelty-free or vegan. In-salon we use Davines hair care products and professional hair colour. Davines are a family owned business who are committed to using cruelty-free ingredients with the vast majority of their products and colours also suitable for people who adhere to Veganism. So not only will you leave our salon with fabulous hair, you will also be safe knowing that the only animal that has come close to your hair will be Winston, giving you a lick with his seal of approval!
