Top tips to keep your skin glowing during the festive season with Pastels Salon Dubai…

As party season gets into full swing, it can take a real toll on our skin, betraying the experience of late nights, poor diet and ultimately robbing us of our glow. Thankfully, Edwige Gandin, Beautician at Pastels Salon Dubai, shared some advice on how to maintain your skin’s beauty, whatever December has in store for you!

DEDICATED DAILY SKINCARE

To ensure an angelic glow during the holy month, switch your regular face wash with a cleanser containing glycolic acid (normal-dry skin) or salicylic acid (oily skin). If your skin is sensitive use a gentle cleanser daily and a scrub once a week. Gentle exfoliation every day will stimulate your skin while removing any dead skin cells, imparting your skin with a healthy and radiant glow.

SWITCH YOUR SKINCARE PRODUCTS

Opt for lightweight hydrating lotions or serums to let your skin breathe easy and avoid breakouts. Reapply a moisturizing serum every time you wash your face to make sure your skin stays supple and hydrated. For your daily anti-aging skincare needs look for products with vitamin C and A, as they are the true rockstar ingredients that can change your skin from drab to fab.

STICK WITH SUNSCREEN

Even though it’s winter UV rays from the sun are extremely damaging to the skin. So, if you are heading out for a brisk, quick Christmas Day walk still apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen.

EAT WISELY

Remember you are what you eat, so this year, why not make a special effort and avoid oily/fast food, sugar, and refined carbohydrates. Your skin will thank you as you will avoid blemishes, breakouts, and lacklustre skin. Instead eat fresh vegetables, proteins, and fruits. Eat as many nuts as you can. Cashews and almonds are packed with healthy fibres, fatty acids, and proteins, thus effective in maintaining your skin’s glow. Fruits such as strawberries and blueberries are high in antioxidants, which are known for their positive effect on healthy skin. Make sure you drink plenty of water (10-15 glasses each day) to eliminate any toxins from your skin. Perhaps you can make sure some of the meals you have are water based like soups.

KICK YOUR CAFFEINE HABIT

Caffeine and certain sugar-based drinks are known to suck out the minerals in the body, which has a negative effect on your skin so avoid them at all costs.

SKIP THE SUGAR

Sugar can weaken our immune system, and our bodies aren’t as effective at fighting off bacteria when our immune systems are suppressed – a leading cause of acne and other inflammatory skin conditions

DITCH THE DAIRY

Dairy products are often linked to acne and breakouts, so limit your intake of cream and other festive dairy-laden desserts to prevent skin breakouts. There are lots of alternatives available, so try to swap your regular milk for almond or rice milk.

YOU NEED YOUR BEAUTY SLEEP

Use your holidays wisely! Try to get plenty of sleep (8-10 hours) every night if you want to avoid dark circles around the eyes. Our body goes through multiple changes in our circadian rhythm, different hormones for different purposes are secreted during day and night. Research has shown us that day sleep is not as beneficial as night sleep because the body only repairs and rejuvenates during night, with peak repair activity after midnight.
