Hair Gloss is Your Hair’s BFF by Pastels Salon Dubai Co-Founder, Ruksher Malik

One of the best kept secrets in the hair industry is the transformative power of a hair gloss. A hair gloss offers terrific benefits for all hair types and is perfect when you feel your hair needs a bit of a boost.

When the hair cuticle is smooth, it reflects light and has a shiny appearance. Hair colour and heat styling, as well as exposure to the sun, chlorine, and salt water, are common culprits for damaging the hair cuticle, resulting in loss of shine. But a glossing treatment will return texture and condition your strands for ultimate silkiness and shine. This is because a gloss is an acidic product and closes the hair cuticle tightly, resulting in a very smooth surface texture that reflects light beautifully and feels incredibly soft, making the glass hair trend easily achievable!

In addition to smoothing down the cuticle and boosting its natural shine, a hair gloss can help existing hair colour. It does this by keeping the colour from fading and protecting it from succumbing to damaging effects, such as dryness. In fact, if you have colour services, it's very likely a gloss has been the final step in your appointment to ensure colour vibrancy.

You can get a gloss every few weeks, which can be especially beneficial for dry or damaged hair. I always recommend that all colour clients should invest in a gloss treatment halfway between colour appointments, especially for blondes and those with highlights, whose colour can become brassy over time or redheads who tend to fade quickly, as a gloss can add or remove tone from the hair.

Given that rich jewel tones are becoming increasingly popular, hair glossing will become a must-have treatment. For brunettes, a rich honey or espresso brown gloss will give your hair a wow factor, while redheads can try a deep copper or auburn and blondes will look great with golden-toned glosses.

In addition to tinted glosses used to maintain tone or colour, clear gloss treatments are also an option as the treatment is brilliant for amplifying shine. A clear gloss will also enhance the variations in tone that your hair naturally has, while restoring both shine and smoothness to the hair.

What’s brilliant about glossing treatments is that they are semi-permanent, meaning they will fade within six weeks so there is no real commitment, leaving you free to experiment with what gloss will suit your hair best and really make it stand out.
