Spring is here and summer is not too far away, and with that comes bronzed, sun kissed skin.
We all know sitting in the sun is not great for your skin, and so it’s always safer to get your glow from a bottle. But there is a process when it comes to applying fake tan to make sure you get that gorgeous streak-free glow.
We caught up with Chantal from Scratch Nail & Beauty Salon and owner and creator of CiCi Luxury Tan to get her steps to create flawless golden skin…
- To create the most perfect looking tan, always exfoliate in the shower with a puff in the morning prior to your tanning treatment or before you apply your tan at home. Pay extra attention to dry areas like the feet, ankles, elbows and knees.
- Always shave 24 hours before, or if you have regular waxing have it done a couple of days before. Tan often sinks into those loosened pores, creating dark spots and an uneven finish.
- Keep your skin clean of any deodorant and perfume, as these can create a sticky layer on the skin which prevents the tan from adhering. It’s best to avoid them all together before tanning and while it develops.
- Moisturise your whole body before you tan with cream not oil. I always find tan goes on so evenly when the skin is moisturised. Use a moisturiser every day in the week leading up to tanning, then moisturise very dry areas, such as elbows, knees, ankles, feet and hands, 2 to 3 hours before tanning. Pop a little extra moisturiser on your hands and feet to act as a barrier - there’s nothing worse than patchy tan!
- If applying your tan at home then always use a tanning mitt for a flawless, streak-free glow.
- Once the tan is applied, dry off for 15 minutes and pop on some lose black clothing. If you are having a professional spray tan, I would leave this to develop for 6-8 hours. Once the tan has developed, shower off with a tiny bit of soap and then reapply your moisturiser. This helps make your tanning treatment last longer.
- To help your tan last as long as possible, gently exfoliate every 2-3 days and moisturise daily.
