Get the look with former L’Oreal Colour Trophy winner, Marlon Hawkins…

Artistic director of Brooks & Brooks, Marlon Hawkins won the London Regional Title and 2nd place at the 2024 L’Oreal Colour Trophy with his wedge-inspired haircut, playing around with colour through the graduation to showcase androgynous colour.

Get the look

  • The haircut is a classic wedge but adapted shorter and cut scissor-over-comb in areas to tighten the haircut.
  • A clean canvas is essential. Use L’Oreal Professionnel Purple Lightening Balm to get a clean lift all over.
  • Pre-tone with L’Oreal Professionnel Dia Color 9.02 Clear to get nothing too violet but not warm leaving you with a clean base to work with.
  • Take a crescent moon-inspired sectioning pattern in two tiers - starting thin getting wider then back to thin. Colour is placed from the recession all the way down to the occipital bone and then swung round to the other recession.
  • Working with two colours within the crescent sectioning pattered layer colour through the haircut using L’Oréal Professionnel Dia Color 9.12 very light ash iridescent blonde with a dot of L’Oreal Professionnel Dia Color Red Booster and Clear for a pink blush tone. The second colour use L’Oreal Professionnel Dia Color 9.1 with a dot of black for a smoky grey.
  • More colour is applied towards the occipital bone, then very fine sections round the sides so it looks like the colour is swinging around the head.
  • Finish the look by applying L’Oreal Professionnel Absolut Repair Molecular for condition, then wrap dry smooth and gently run straighteners through allowing your colour work to shine.
