R+Co X Paris Men’s Fashion Week

Led by Jan Przemyk for AOFM, creatives from the R+Co UK network all travelled to Paris for the biannual showcase of men’s future fall fashion.

Sean Suen’s collection drew inspiration from the dramatic and often tumultuous life of Pu Yi, the last Emperor of China, as well as from the 1987 Bernard Betolucci film of the same name. The setting is Suen’s native city of Beijing, China. This collection explored the journey of life and the spaces between who we are and how our realities are embodied outwardly through our choices.

With this in mind, the hair design had a gradual subtle change in how the show walked and complimented each model in a journey.

Hed Mayner takes its impulse from a Gordon Matta-Clark quote – ‘the action is centered on habitual daily gestures that become bizarre and adventurous in an unusual setting’. The complete range of pieces shown in Paris echoed ‘form follows function’, revealing a pared down approach projecting a playful wearability. 

This was the basis upon which the hair was created. ‘Think school chess club’ says Przemyk. Casing the collection, simplicity vs. function was the key operator.
