Retinol Skincare

Share

If there is one beauty buzzword we hear often, it’s Retinol. We come across many beauty therapists and dermatologists that swear by this product to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

So, what exactly is retinol?

Retinol is an antioxidant derivative of Vitamin A – the superhero vitamin that speeds up cell turnover and lessens free-radical damage and ageing. Once applied to your skin, retinol gets to work by transforming itself into retinoic acid. Retinoic acid is what affects the skin cells behaviour – increasing collagen and preventing wrinkles by improving the skin’s elasticity.

Not only is retinol an anti-ageing hero, it can also help with other skin conditions such as acne, eczema and discoloration.

Although it has had a bit of a bad rep due it causing dryness and flaking, and is a no-no for sensitive skins, Retinol is a prominent skincare ingredient. If you have not used it before, we recommend you apply it every other day or mix it with your usual moisturiser to let your skin gradually get used to it.

There are plenty of brands out there that offer retinol products, so to give you a heads-up we have given our top picks to get you started.
