The ‘Everything’ Bob by Vidal Sassoon

Share

The classic ‘Everything’ bob by Vidal Sassoon cut and styled nine ways.

When Vidal Sassoon conceptualised the bob, it wasn’t just a hairstyle, it heralded a cultural shift for women to a low maintenance style, freeing them from weekly salon appointments, stiff lacquered hair and hours under the hood dryer.

Sassoon pioneered the idea that hair should be cut to fall into place and follow the natural curves of the face and body. The bob remains a go-to cut, emerging as the uncontested style of 2024 and worn by Margot Robbie, Gigi Hadid, Kim Kardashian, Zendaya, Nicole Kidman, Rita Ora, Jennifer Lopez, Raye, Carey Mulligan, Hailey Bieber... and every variation of the bob uses the Sassoon technique as its basis.

Mark Hayes, International Creative Director at House of Sassoon cut the ‘Everything’ bob above and styled it nine ways, saying, “This cut suits most hair types and face shapes, it’s a really versatile style. You can see here what it would look like on wavy or curly hair and on straight hair, and you can easily restyle between the looks. It also shows why it works across the generations, whether you’re 17 and slick it back or 70 and wear a classic blow-dry, or vice versa, you can change this style to suit your mood.

“It remains a fact that the bob is one of the hardest cuts to perfect but one of the easiest cuts to wear - the genius of it is in its simplicity for the wearer. Vidal designed this cut so that women wouldn’t have to come back to the salon to style it, the point of it is freedom! I restyled these nine looks using O&M styling products and Diva styling tools.”
