ghd were clearly the brand of choice for the 2016 Met Ball...

Who: Brie Larson

Hair by: celebrity hairstylist, Mara Roszak

Brie wore this modern, cool-girl Proenza Schouler dress, which was glamorous, yet very wearable. We wanted the hair to have a wet look and feel simple and relatively casual and effortless.

Tips and Techniques...

On damp hair I applied L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Extreme Style Gel with a wide tooth comb. I used enough gel to cover the hair without it feeling overly saturated with product.

Next, I had Brie tilt her head back and gathered the hair into a low ponytail at the nape of the neck, applying a bit more gel on the ponytail. Then I used a ghd air™ hairdryer to blow-dry the hair until it hardened. Next, I took a little piece of hair and wrapped it around the elastic of the ponytail, fastening with a bobby pin. I then used L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle TXT IT Tousle Waves Spray to completely saturate the hair, creating a dampened look.

To finish, I applied L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle LOCK IT Extreme Style Gel through the ponytail to keep it secure.

Who: Emma Stone

Hair by: celebrity hairstylist, Mara Roszak

Emma wore this gorgeous white, flowy Prada gown with sharp gun metal details for an ethereal yet edgy look. We wanted the hair to have a strong, powerful presence.

Tips and Techniques...

First, I prepped Emma’s hair with L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Boost It Volume Inject Mousse and parted it off to the side. To disguise Emma’s bangs, I pinned them off to the side too. Next, using a small round brush and ghd air™ hairdryer I blow-dried the hair to create volume. Then, I pin curled the hair and sprayed all over with L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Strong Hold. After several minutes, I took the pins out and used the 1 ¼ inch ghd curve soft curl tong to go over the curls.

Next, I brushed out the curls to create looser waves, spritzed all over with L’Oréal Paris Advanced Hairstyle Sleek it Stand-Smoother Serum Spray for shine and applied L’Oréal Paris Elnett Satin Hairspray Strong Hold to keep the hair in place.

Who: Kate Hudson

Hair by: Shay Ashual

Kate's dress was quite structured. It perfectly captured the theme of the MET Ball, ‘Manus x Machina.’ We felt that a look with soft waves would be the right feeling to compliment the structured dress to give it some romance. From hair to make-up the look worked in perfect harmony.

Tips and Techniques...

I started with freshly washed hair and sprayed ghd Heat Protect Spray throughout then rough dried it with the ghd air™ hairdryer to keep a natural feel to the hair. I used my fingers to comb through the hair whilst drying.

Once the hair was dry, I opted to use the ghd platinum™ styler for the front and crown of the head, taking three quarter inch sections, twisting the iron a bit as I went down the length of the hair creating a soft curve on each section. It makes the curls effortless and chic. On the rest of the hair, taking two-inch sections, I used the ghd curve soft curl tong, creating very large, soft waves. Because sections of the hair close to the face required special attention, I pinned them flat against the head after curling them for a more flat wave. I used ghd Smooth & Finish Serum starting at the mid-lengths through to the ends of the hair for some light separation and control.

To finish the look, I used a light hold spray on top - an overall soft and easy look to contrast the structure and opulence of the Versace dress.

Who: Miranda Kerr

Hair by: Akki Shirakawa

The inspiration for Miranda's look for the Met Ball 2016 was fully in line with the theme of the night. It embraced fashion in the age of technology. The look was graphic, futuristic and striking.

Tips and Techniques...

Starting with wet hair, I applied ghd Advanced Split End Therapy at the ends, then evenly applied ghd Total Volume Foam from root to tip to give texture to the hair. I then created a centre parting and dried it with the ghd air™ hairdryer. To remove frizz and enhance shine I used the ghd platinum™ styler from the mid-length of the hair to the tip to give the hair a graphic finish.

Starting from the top of the forehead and working my way down, I then created a thin braid, about one-inch wide, running along either side of the face to frame it. Next, I combed and slicked down the rest of the hair following the contour of the braid and tied braids together with a skinny leather strap, meeting at the lowest part of the neck. To intensify shine and complete the look, I distributed ghd Smooth & Finish Serum evenly over the surface to intensify the shine.
