One brow style Sian has seen coming back over the last few months are thin brows. We caught up with Sian to get her take on the thin brow trend and how to achieve thinner (but still full!) brows.

Are thin brows becoming more popular?

Thin brows are slowly on the return, inspired by the 90’s trend. While full, defined brows have dominated in recent years, there’s a renewed interest in more delicate brows that add a softer, classic look.

Who suits thin brows?

Thin brows can suit a range of face shapes, but they often work best for people with smaller, delicate features, as they enhance natural bone structure without overwhelming the face. However, thin brows may not always be ideal for those with very prominent brow bones or rounder faces, as fuller brows can provide more balance.

How do you make think brows look full?

  • Add Depth with Powder or Gel: A light application of brow powder or tinted gel can add density, while avoiding the “drawn-on” look.
  • Define the Shape: Use a fine-tipped gel brow pencil to draw in small, hair-like strokes. This gives the appearance of more fullness even with a thin outline while avoiding the “drawn-on” look.
  • Highlight Strategically: Applying a subtle highlighter under the brow arch which enhances definition and gives a lifted, fuller look to thin brows.

How can permanent makeup help?

Permanent makeup, like microblading or nano brows, can be a great solution for achieving precise, natural-looking thin brows. These techniques use fine strokes that mimic real hairs, allowing you to maintain a thin shape while still looking full. Permanent makeup is especially helpful for people with naturally sparse brows who want a low-maintenance option.

What should we avoid when creating thin brows?

  • Over-Plucking: It’s tempting to go very thin but avoid overdoing it. Too much hair removal can make brows difficult to reshape later.
  • Harsh Outlines: Avoid creating harsh lines that make brows look drawn-on rather than natural. Blending is key to achieving a soft, flattering look.
  • Very Dark Colours: Choose shades that complement your natural hair color and skin tone. Dark shades on thin brows can look too intense, so opt for lighter tones to keep the look subtle.
