Gee Kent Ho, winner of 2024 L’Oréal Colour Trophy
“I have had my eye on winning the L’Oreal Colour Trophy since the start of my hairdressing journey, so it was a major career highlight. After winning, I took part in the winner’s photo shoot with L’Oreal Professionnel recreating my winning look and capturing it in a professional photo shoot was fun. My pinch me moment was seeing my image on the front cover of Hairdressers Journal and then having the images blown-up all-over Salon international. Getting recognised at industry events is still a strange thing to experience but everyone has been so nice and positive towards me. Aside from all of this I have been approached by companies for brand collaborations, and I have gained new celebrity contacts too.”
Edd Moss, Headmasters, winner of L’Oreal Colour Trophy Afro Award
“Winning L’Oreal Colour Trophy was a dream come true for me. It’s genuinely one of my proudest moments in my career. I had competed for several years, always striving to improve and push my creativity further, so finally being recognised with the award was an incredible feeling. It validated all the hard work and passion I had put into my craft, and it’s a moment I’ll always look back on with immense pride.
“Since winning the award, I’ve had so many exciting opportunities that have elevated my career. I’ve expanded my expertise by catering to more textured hair clients in the salon, which has been incredibly rewarding. This passion led to a brand-new Headmaster's course which I am leading the education for, to teach texture techniques across the group and help to educate and inspire other stylists. Beyond that, I had the privilege of working on a photo shoot for Stylist Magazine in collaboration with L’Oréal Professionnel.”
Mark Byrne and Lisa May, NHO Salon, winners of 2024 Irish L’Oreal Colour Trophy
“Since winning the L’Oreal Colour Trophy, we’ve been fortunate to have many exciting opportunities. The exposure has allowed us to connect with industry leaders, collaborate with some amazing talent, and expand our professional network. There have been numerous opportunities for editorial shoots, interviews, and appearances at industry events. Winning the award has also led to a surge in client bookings, as well as opportunities to teach and mentor other stylists, which has been incredibly fulfilling.”
Jake Murphy, Zeba Hairdressing, winner of Irish Star Award
“It felt amazing when my name was announced as the Star Award winner, but I was in complete shock. This was the first big competition I have ever entered so I was completely surprised to hear my name being called. The best opportunity I’ve got from winning Star Award is getting to be a part of the ID Artist programme. ID Artist is something I’ve always wanted to do and getting to be a part of the team from winning Star Award has just felt surreal.”
