Top Six Rules for Long Lasting Manicures

Share

Top UK nail artist and educator, Eve of Chic Training Academy, gives us the lowdown on how to make your manicures last longer…

Cuticle Oil

A drop of cuticle oil goes a long way, from improving the health and appearance of your nails to protecting them from trauma. Providing your nails with the correct nourishment helps improve nail growth and strengthen them right to the core. PS… a little cuticle oil is the perfect way to freshen up your manicure ready for the weekend.

Don’t Pick Your Nails

Nail products are designed to grip to the nail plate. Picking your nails exposes the thinner, weaker layers of the nail, meaning your next manicure won’t lost as long and will start peeling, this then gets picked off and the cycle continues causing great trauma to your nails.

Don’t Use Your Nails As Tools

Using your nails as tools creates strain on your nails leading to lifting, chipping, and breakage. Even though you may have not broken your nail through using it as a tool, it has been weakened, meaning it could easily break later.

Hand Cream

We need to learn to take care of our hands. Having dry hands and cuticles means having dry brittle nails. Also no one wants a beautiful manicure on dry hands, they should complement each other! A good tip is to apply hand cream and or oil at night-time, so it doesn’t get washed off throughout the day.

Regular Appointments

Keeping up regular appointments with your nail technician keeps you on top of the nail game! It’s important to have your nails redone before you get tempted to pick them - your nail technician will advise you on how long to leave between appointments. They will also advise you on the correct aftercare to follow up.

High Quality Products

Do your research! your nail technician should know the ins and outs of their products and why they are a good product to be using on your nails. Don’t be afraid of asking them what they use before booking and research their products. It’s important to make sure your technician is using the highest quality nail products, and this will show in their work, the appearance of your nails, and their prices. Cheap products = cheap prices!

There’s only so much a nail technician can do. Once you have left the salon, it’s your job to follow the correct aftercare for a long lasting manicure.
