Trend Alert: The Androp

Share

While the ‘Lob’ may have reigned supreme throughout winter, and the world had a brief love affair with platinum blonde locks in March; spring/summer 15 is all about ‘The Androp’ or ‘androgynous crop’ for those not in the know.

Inspired by Kim Kardashian’s famous ‘momager’ Kris Jenner, Katy Perry is the latest celebrity to debut The Androp, showing genderless beauty is the chicest style to be sporting this spring.

With trend setting fashion super store Selfridges making three floors of their prestigious Oxford Street branch totally gender-neutral, the beauty world are following suit – pioneering genderless haircuts; longer, textured crops that look effortlessly sexy and on trend for both sexes.

Professional hair brand Fudge first sent models out on Craig Greens AW15 runway and Belstaff’s AW15 presentation at London Collections:Men wearing textured uni-styles – a look that has since been requested by an increasing number of style savvy men AND women in Fudge salons across the UK. John Vial, creative director for Fudge Professional comments,

I think the whole genderless look is brilliant, whether you’re male or female. All the boundaries have been broken; boys wear eyeliner and there isn’t anything sexier than a girl in her boyfriend’s shirt. This trend isn’t new but it’s definitely having a revival.

The catwalks have been overshadowed by long hair for far too long, which is why we’re seeing so many celebs taking the lead from the men’s catwalks and working androgynous hair like Edie Campbell and now Katy Perry.

What keeps these short crops looking ultra-modern and feminine is the texture through the mid-lengths to ends – it also explains why we have seen a huge spike in sales for all our Texturizing products over the last few months. It’s time for girls to get their revenge and start stealing their boyfriend’s or brother’s products.

John says,

To get this look; work Fudge Professional’s ‘Big Hair Raise The Roots’ into the scalp, tip head upside down and blast dry for a tiny amount of lift. Find your boyfriend’s best texturizing wax like Fudge Professional’s ‘Matte Hed Extra’, warm in between your hands and apply to mid-lengths and ends, scrunching to encourage movement.
