Want To Lighten Your Locks?

The truth is - beautiful blondes are not made in a day and the journey of going from dark to light is just that, a process.

If you are expecting to transform your dark box dyed brunette hair into a gorgeous summery blonde in one sitting, you will be disappointed. We caught up with the team at Pose Salon Dubai for the lowdown on what to expect with lightening your hair…

There is always some damage to the hair when lightening; that is unavoidable, but the extent of the damage depends on how careful your colourist is and the products that he or she is using.

Bond rebuilders such as Olaplex and K18 are great products to help minimise breakage during colouring.

You will likely need several separate sessions to lighten the hair to your desired shade of blonde – especially if your natural colour is dark or if you have been using permanent colours for several years. Hair always lifts warm regardless of the shade, so be prepared to transition through firstly the red, orange, and then yellow tones during the journey. Toners are what are used to neutralise this as much as possible.

We commonly hear clients thinking that a grey shade lies underneath the black hair. Not true. Also, any type of grey or silver tone will need to be applied onto a very clean, platinum colour, so ash blonde tones can only be achieved once the hair is at its lightest.

The journey does not stop once you have reached your target shade. Keeping your lighter hair healthy and shiny will take some upkeep. Along with the right products, it is likely that your hair will require either a root touch up or a toning service every four to six weeks.

Lighter hair in general is more maintenance and harsher on the hair, so be prepared to invest time, money, and effort into your new look!

We hope after all this, blondes really do have more fun!
