Protecting Employees and Clients from COVID-19

In response to the spread of COVID-19, a salon hair expert is taking steps to protect both customers and employees alike. The owner of Spirals Salon in Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai, Helen Deiki, says she wants clients to know they're taking the virus seriously, as staff and client safety is of paramount importance especially in this industry where close contact with other people sometimes can't be avoided.

It's about everyone doing their part and being diligent. I know as the days keep going. We need to ensure we’re making staff and clients feel safe: reinforcing the importance of protection of everyone who steps over our threshold.

As a business owner you don't want to allow yourself to think about the “what happens if the doors do have to close again”. However, as the owner, I'm in a position where I have to think about it. As the owner, I'm responsible not just for myself, but my team and my clients. As a business owner your responsible for the quality of services and health of clients and the health and wealth of the team – it’s a big pressure!

That's why we have stringently adhered to government guidelines and ensure a rigorous sanitising regime, and have taken steps to ensure that not only have we ensured sanitiser at every station inside the salon, we are observing social distancing and staff reduction with a maximum capacity of 50%. Also, we’re ensuring the clients wash or sanitise their hands immediately upon entering the salon, along with a temperature check before any services. Staff are wearing masks, gloves and face shields and all clients are mandated to wear face masks while disposable items are used where possible. The team are also working hard to maintain the sanitisation process to disinfect the entire salon throughout the day and after every service.

Spirals Salon has also instigated a mandatory daily staff medical checkup. Two to three hours before their shift starts each employee must confirm that they have no symptoms: fever, loss of smell or exposure! We’ve realised we are in a new era of working and we’ve taken the time to continuously train ourselves and staff to operate a little differently now with more diligence.

In addition, the salon is encouraging customers to chat to us for reassurance or to cancel their appointments if they are feeling unwell. A lot of our customers have expressed how much they appreciate our support, guidance and regime. We reinforce safety with clients when they get here, all steps and precautions they need to follow for their safety and ours.
