Great Hair Without the Environmental Impact

Great Hair Without the Environmental Impact

Gilded Hair is a salon with a passion, not only for creating, colouring and styling, but also for change! A change of mass importance; and this importance is our planet!

Joanne Gilder, owner of Gilded Hair, believes that you can have great hair without causing damage to our environment. We can’t change what has happened, however we can change what we do now! Small changes make big differences!

Here Joanne talks about the choices we make and how she has implemented many sustainable changes in her salon that help bring change to our environment whilst still creating amazing hair. See below for just some of the revolutionary products used in Gilded Hair salon today.

Style meets sustainability with the new SUGARCANE.BOWL-LINER. This convenient and cost-effective insert is designed to go inside your COLOR.ME colour bowl reducing the need for rinsing between colour applications saving precious time between clients while significantly reducing water usage in the salon. Made from 100% renewable sugar cane with zero plastic or wax coating, each insert is completely compostable within 30 days making it the conscientious choice for colour. The multi-functional handle also serves as the perfect place to jot down your formula, making the mixing process as streamlined and simplified as possible.

ECO HEADS Showerhead

Designed specifically for the fast-paced salon, the ECOHEADS Showerhead is the first of its kind to deliver BOTH improved water pressure and reduced water usage. All while cleansing the water utilising a two-step filtration process, ensuring you are rinsing with clean water that has the added benefit of tourmaline, which introduces negative ions to the water.

  • Improves water pressure
  • Saves up to 65% of your water
  • Produces cleaner, softer water

100% Natural. 100% Biodegradable. Every human activity has an impact on our planet. It is Scrummi’s mission to minimise this impact at every stage of their product’s lifecycle.

Scrummi hairdressing towels start life as either eucalyptus or cedar trees in central Europe. They are harvested from sustainable forestry programmes, where for every tree that is harvested, three trees are planted in its place. The yearly volume of wood regrowth is by 10million cubic metres higher than the wood quantities harvested per year.

The trees are pulped and delivered to their factories as fibres. These fibres are then turned into the Scrummi salon waffle towel with a very economical and considered process. All the water used in the process is filtered and recycled and all their plants are monitored and have strict corporate and social responsibility guides in place.

The energy used in the entire lifecycle of a Scrummi disposable towel including its manufacture is less than the energy used by a washing machine to clean one single cotton hairdressing towel. 95% of Scrummi’s total shipping distance is done by rail and sea, which has the lowest environmental impact of any mode of transport. All Scrummi products are 100% biodegradable or recyclable (colouring gown). Our Scrummi waffle products will biodegrade in about 100 days in an anaerobic environment. This is comparable to an orange peel!
