Situated in Central Southend on Sea, the Academy was established by Martin Kolton MBE in 1983 with just 15 learners. The Academy today is renowned for its quality and expertise in the Hairdressing Industry and the staff work with City and Guilds giving input to the new hairdressing qualifications The Curriculum Leader, Keryl Titmus, is the author of the new City and Guilds Level 2 Hairdressing Textbook.
Today Central Hairdressing offer a variety of programmes; traineeships, apprenticeships, study programmes and adult learning in Barbering, Hairdressing, Customer Service, Employability and Management.
If you are aged 16-18, love to learn, but have very little or no work experience, then a Traineeship Programme could be ideal for you.
Our expert Traineeship Course leaders will tailor the course for your individual needs and will concentrate on building up your employability, customer service skills and focus on hairdressing, to prepare you to start a Hairdressing Apprenticeship.
These programmes last between 6 - 24 weeks. We find most learners have progressed to an Apprenticeship by week 16. Get a great start on the rest of your career with a traineeship.

Level 2 is designed to give you all of the core knowledge and skills you need to start your career in hairdressing. We will help you with your job search too, to make sure you find the right fit for you.

You will achieve a Hair Professional Apprenticeship Level 2.
How does it work?
The level 2 apprenticeship will take up to 24 months to complete.
You’ll receive expert face to face training, supported by online learning and on the job work experience to develop valuable skills.
You can expect to spend 20% of your working week training, which can be at our academies or at your employer's premises, as well as online support, coaching and shadowing opportunities to learn on the job. Until lockdown has been lifted, learning sessions will be done by distance learning.
If you’ve completed your Apprenticeship at Level 2 and are ready to advance your salon career, then Level 3 is the training for you.
It’s ideal if you have gained experience, are already working in a salon and have mastered the basics and are looking for the next step to enhance your skills.
What you need:
Apprenticeship Level 2
Employment in a salon for a minimum of 30 hours per week

You will achieve an Advanced Apprenticeship in Hairdressing.

The level 3 apprenticeship will take up to 18 months to complete.

This Apprenticeship is only delivered within the In-Salon Training Programme and at our Central Hair London, Bethnal Green and Smithfields centres.
This professional standard is ideal for those learners aged over 16 who have left school and wish to start a career within a barber’s shop. Learners are required to be employed and will achieve all elements of the barbering Apprenticeship at Level 2. Apprentices will work in a busy barber’s shop assisting the barbers whilst learning the skills of barbering by completing cutting, outlines and detailing, cutting, razoring and shaving facial.
Entry Requirements:
Ideally GCSE’s at grade 9 to 3 (A-D), including English & Maths
Employment within a salon for at least 30 hours or more per week
Duration & Level:
This Apprenticeship will take between 18 and 24 months to complete and is at Level 2.
Qualifications:
You will achieve a Professional Standard in Barbering Apprenticeship.
Traineeship
If you are between 16-18 years old with no or very little work experience then a Traineeship Programme may be ideal for you. The Traineeship Course is tailored to your individual needs and will concentrate on building up your employability, customer service skills and focus on the vocational area you wish to progress to such as business administration/hairdressing/design to prepare you to start an Apprenticeship. These programmes last a minimum of 6 weeks, up to 24 weeks. However, most learners progress to an Apprenticeship by week 16.
Central Training Group is City & Guilds’ largest hairdressing training provider in the UK, celebrating over 34 years of delivery. The quality of training has been judged by OFSTED as a Grade 2 for the third time in nine years and as being in the top 10% of training providers and colleges across the country.
Our London Hairdressing Academy was established by the late, famous Joshua Galvin (1938-2011) who was the European Creative Director at Vidal Sassoon. Along with his brother, Daniel Galvin, he was one of the hairdressing industry’s great innovators. Joshua was known as “The Hairdresser’s Hairdresser” and his passion for education was second-to-none.
If you are between 19-24 and in receipt of Job Seeker's Allowance with no or very little work experience then a Traineeship Programme may be ideal for you. The learner will also have the opportunity to achieve English and Maths Functional Skills.

If neither of these apply to you then the fee is £825.00 which can be paid by Direct Debit or in full at one of our training centres.
Equipment
Learners are required to have their own hairdressing equipment and the cost is approximately £150.00
This course enables adults over the age of 19 to complete all elements of Hairdressing for both Women and Men to Level 2 including Cutting, Colouring, Styling, Cutting Facial Hair and Working in the Hair Industry
Entry Requirements
Ideally learners will have previously achieved GCSE’s in English and Maths at grade 3 (D) or above.
Duration and Level
This programme is a 32-week course that will enable the adult learner to progress to either an Apprenticeship or Level 3 in Hairdressing.
Learners will attend for two days per week for 32 weeks.
Qualifications:
The adult learner will achieve a Level 2 Diploma in Women’s and Men’s Hairdressing.

If neither of these apply to you then the fee is £1,500 which can be paid by Direct Debit or in full at one of our training centres. Payment in full attracts a 10% discount

This course enables adults over the age of 19 to complete all elements of advanced hairdressing to Level 2 including cutting, colouring and styling.
Entry Requirements
Ideally, learners will have achieved Grade E or above in English and Maths and a Level 2 Certificate in Women’s Hairdressing or a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Hairdressing.
Duration and Level
Attendance is two days per week for 6 months for Level 3.
Qualifications:
The learner will achieve a Certificate in Advanced Women’s Hairdressing at Level 3.
The learner will also have the opportunity to achieve English and Maths Functional Skills.

If neither of these apply to you then the fee is £1,645.00 which can be paid by an Advanced Learning Loan

Learners are required to have their own hairdressing equipment and the cost is approximately £150.00
This course enables adults over the age of 19 to complete all elements of barbering to Level 2 including cutting hair using barbering techniques, creating outlines and detailing and cutting and shaving facial hair.
Entry Requirements
Ideally, learners will have achieved Grade E or above in English and Maths.
Duration and Level
Attendance is two days per week for 6 months for Level 2.
Qualifications:
The learner will achieve a Certificate in Barbering at Level 2.
The learner will also have the opportunity to achieve English and Maths Functional Skills.
