About The Good Salon Guide

The Good Salon Guide is the only independent, nationwide scheme for assessing professional standards and services within the hairdressing and beauty industries. Listing around 2,000 salons, the Good Salon Guide has become the Kitemark of quality for the public and hairdressing industry.

Background

Starting with the hairdressing industry the Good Salon Guide was launched in 1993 in response to consumer demand. British hairdressing may be the best in the world with hairdressers from America, the Far East and Europe coming here to learn from the masters, but sadly standards do vary and there are no regulations in Britain and Ireland governing who can practice as a hairdresser.

Salons are professionally assessed against objective criteria and rated accordingly. If a salon meets a set of minimum standards, it is given Registered status. Thereafter salons are rated as 3, 4 or 5 Star, as well as Training, Barbers, Blow-dry, Extensions Artist, Colour Expert, Creative Excellence, and ECO Salon.

The Good Salon Guide headquarters are located in Hampshire, with representatives based throughout the UK, Europe and the UAE.

Since it began, the Good Salon Guide has gathered the support of all the major hairdressing bodies and is committed to working with the hairdressing industry to improve and maintain the highest standards.
