A Newport hair salon is delighted after reaching the final of the Welsh Hair and Beauty Awards. MJ’s Hair & Beauty in the Celtic Springs Business Park has been shortlisted in the Hair Salon of the Year and Stylist of the Year award categories after they were nominated by clients.

The salon, which has been in business for just three years, will find out if they will be crowned winners at a ceremony held in Cardiff’s Mercure Holland House Hotel on June 28th.

Last year, the salon was also a finalist in the first year of the awards, which recognises talent in the profession across Wales. Run by husband and wife team Carl and Maxine Jones, it is stylist Maxine that has been nominated for the award. Mr Jones said,

We opened three years ago and since then have come on leaps and bounds. We are a really thriving business now and have exceeded all our expectations. When we set the business up, we focused on providing customer service and that is what we do. We have 300 to 400 clients who travel to us from all over Gwent, Cardiff and even Swansea.

Now the salon is planning on providing testimonies from some of its clients along with photographic evidence, in the hope of securing the award.

The awards, which range from the ‘Best of Cardiff’ to the much sought after ‘Beauty Salon of the Year’, have shortlisted seven finalists for each of the ten award categories who will be picked by a selected panel of judges. On Ms Jones’ nomination, Mr Jones added,

Maxine listens to what the client wants - if they bring in a picture she will explain everything about it and has a unique flare to her work.
