Hair and Vision Heads to Glasgow

Share

As the Fellowship for British Hairdressing continues to spread its reach across the UK, it was off to Glasgow for an inspiring night of hairdressing from talent both local and national.

Hosted by Fellowship President, Ken Picton and Vice-President, Robert Eaton, the evening boasted a star-studded line-up, as well as a special guest in the form of Joanne Reid from Scottish industry title, Salon NV.

Each of the stylists had the opportunity to showcase their own personal brand of hair, sharing the stories, skills and secrets behind their look. Austen Thomson showcased a pastel blonde with strawberry and ice tones, which appeared to change colour to a striking, on-trend violet under the show lights. For Peter Mellon from Medusa, it was all about the ponytails with two dynamic takes on the trend; one extended to extreme lengths, the other bedecked with on-trend accessories for a show-stopping look. Marlene Lamont from Urban Hair & Beauty brought to life looks and skills learnt on her time on both the Project X and Colour Project teams, with streetwise looks packed full of colour and texture.

Sophie Laidlaw from Wonderland was inspired by the strong women of ancient Persia, using adornment and contrasting textures to create editorial looks. Alan Findlay from Rebel Rebel brought his barbering skills to the stage with a sharp cut, but created a futuristic, dimensional finish with the use of colour and extensions. Ross Miller and Laura Hill from Renella brought a colour explosion to the stage, with two punky looks that combined bold shades with plaits, twists and layers for two Insta-worthy looks.

For Jason Hall, it was all in the technique with rick-rack curls created on pins, dressed out to create a voluminous look. In contrast, he also presented a beautiful avant-garde headpiece, crafted with strands of hair for an organic, textural look. Diana Carson from Rainbow Room International created two very bold, contrasting looks using texture and colour to bring the styles to life. Two very different looks incorporating sleek polished plaits and voluminous ‘undone’ locks brings a sense of elegance to the finished looks.

Joanne Reid from Salon NV was special guest on the night and shared with Ken her thoughts on the Scottish industry, how the Fellowship can help ignite a stylist’s career no matter their location and her own stories of success, representing hairstylists and barbers across the country.
