Hair & Vision Hits the Road
As part of its mission to bring the best of British hairdressing to the whole of the country, the Fellowship for British Hairdressing recently hosted two coordinating shows; one in Leeds and one in Cardiff, on one big night for hairdressing creativity.
The Hair & Vision format allows artists to present their models on stage while sharing the concepts behind their looks, as well as providing insight into the trends and techniques they’re using.
In Leeds, former Fellowship Chairperson Jo Martin was on hand to host the night, which took place at the Sheaf Street space. Opening the evening were presentations from Jordanna Cobella with looks inspired by the eclecticism of current-day Gucci; Rick Roberts presented directional pastel colours and cuts, and Johnny Shanahan from Barber Barber brought his trademark cutting and finishing to the stage.
Special guest Russell Eaton was next on stage, sharing the secrets of his 50-year-long career and the changes he’s seen - both in the industry and the Fellowship - in that time. A true icon of the British hairdressing scene, his insight had the room captivated.
The second half of the evening, hosted by Rick Roberts, saw Sharon Peake from Ethos present her own unique take on colour trends with a root fade and dramatic teal model; Ben Madle from Headhunters presented two directional, trend-led looks with a wet-look wrapped ponytail and textured avant-garde crop, and Jade Mollon from Marc Antoni presented two technical cuts, brought to life with intriguing colour placements.
Meanwhile in Cardiff, host and Fellowship Chancellor Ken Picton welcomed the crowds to Cornerstone Cardiff for an inspiring evening.
Taking to the stage first were Ian Davies from Ocean with two contrasting looks - one with full curls and the other a striking crop; Jamie Hill, who presented two versions of the Mohawk - one made from braids and the other formed with cable ties; the ISA Training students with avant-garde and editorial looks, and Casey Coleman with dramatic shapes in pastel pink and dressed-out brunette curls.
Special guests Errol Douglas MBE and Craig Chapman had an inspiring conversation on stage, sharing their own stories of Fellowship success and what’s next in their hectic calendars.
The second half of the show saw Anne Veck present her trademark avant-garde with colourful, braided up-dos; Joshua Goldsworthy showcased his editorial skills with two runway-inspired looks and Steven Smart from Smart Est:73 presented two takes on pastel, with a punk pageboy and dressed-out curls.
With two shows, two cities and a host of creative names on stage, it’s safe to say this was the Fellowships biggest - and most inspiring - night of the year so far.
