O&M Summer Essentials
Original & Mineral (O&M) is an Australian salon professional brand founded by Jose Bryce Smith, who opened the first ammonia-free salon in Australia 20 years ago with her then partner, a hairdresser who suffered with contact dermatitis.
Bringing nature and luxury together in a line of hair colour, care and styling products that are safe, effective, and beautiful to use, these mini versions are the perfect size for holidays or slipping into a gym bag. Offering a saving on buying the products individually, they also come in a complimentary pink vegan leather washbag. The formulations replace harsh chemicals with active natural extracts and minerals, including native Australian ingredients like Lilly Pilly, Banksia Flower, Quandong, Tasmanian Sea Kelp and Davidson Plum, as well as quality essential oils that deliver real benefits.
The products are made in O&M’s own solar powered factory, and use PCR/Ocean Waste Plastic, aluminium and FSC packaging, partner with recycling program Sustainable Salons ANZ, and are PETA cruelty-free certified. They’ve been named Best New Hair Launch 2023 in Woman & Home’s 100 Best Beauty Buy Awards.
Some of the “everyday” chemicals you won’t find in O&M...
- Phthalates: Cling to the hair to give it fragrance and gives products such as gels more staying power. Exposure to phthalates in pregnant women can cause harm during critical periods of a child's development.
- Sulphates: Are used to clean the hair of its natural oils leaving the hair feeling dry and looking matte. Denatures skin proteins and largely affects people with contact dermatitis.
- Parabens: Have antifungal and antibacterial properties that act as a preservative for maintaining freshness and longer product shelf life. One of the leading chemicals that can cause skin irritation and contact dermatitis.
- Propylene Glycol: Used to bind many haircare products together and retain moisture content not only on the hair but also in packaging. Propylene glycol has been linked to headaches, backaches, and kidney problems.
- MIT: Methylisothiazolinone prevents bacteria. Due to the high exposure to the scalp through haircare, MIT in hair products greatly damages skin cells, causing itching, flaking and soreness on the scalp.
- Triclosan: Another chemical used to kill bacteria on the hair. Triclosan's manufacturing process can also create dioxin, a powerful hormone disrupter that can have long term health effects.
