Project X Get Wiggy With It!

Share

Sam Burnett from Hare & Bone imparted his wig-wisdom recently, as he spent the day with the Fellowship’s Project X team at the Alan d Academy in London.

Wigs are becoming more and more potent within the hairdressing industry, with celebrities regularly reaching for them for a quick-fix style change. There’s no doubt that clients are becoming savvy to the idea that they are the best way to get the ultimate colour change. Not only this, but the British Hairdressing Awards have recently changed their rules in terms of wigs, allowing two in any collection.

With these advances, hairdressers need to step up their game to fine tune and improve their skills to meet demand. So, what better way for our Project X team to spend a Monday, than learning all about wigs with a master of the trade, Sam Burnett?

Wigs are certainly becoming more mainstream, says Sam. Wigs and hair pieces are more readily available on the high street these days, so we need to ensure that we know how to use them. From an industry point of view, if we want to create stronger images with stronger cuts and colours, wigs are such a handy tool in doing this. You can create the hair you want on the model you want without paying all the extra costs for cutting and colouring. They provide more opportunities and more creativity.

Sam spoke to the Project X team about the ins and outs of wigs, sharing all his top tips and advice and showing them wigs he had created for shows and shoots. One of the key parts to Sam’s session was showing how to complete a wig wrap, which he demonstrated on a model, explaining to the team all the foundations on how to master the technique. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Fellowship workshop without the chance to have a practice, so the team spent the afternoon cutting and styling wigs themselves.

Team member Georgina Cadwallader from KJM Salons says,

I went for a mullet shaped wig as I wanted to create something with lots of texture. Sam was there every step of the way to help and guide us, making sure our wigs were the best they could be! Once I got going I couldn’t believe how simple it actually was! Sam is a great educator and his passion for hair and education really shone through.

This was one of the education days that I had been looking forward to the most, says team member Lois Negus from Maxwell’s. After spending the day with Sam, I feel so much more confident in creating wigs for photo shoots. I enjoyed every second of the day and I can’t wait to start creating more wigs for upcoming projects throughout the year.
